Pick and Pack Services in the Midwest

Gerald Busse

Businesses are always looking for efficient and cost effective ways getting their products around. The Midwest houses many major business hubs such as Chicago, Illinois. Retail and wholesale companies depend on other businesses such as warehouses to help them. Warehouses are a major component in a companies supply chain. Many warehouse businesses perform a pick and pack service; which is crucial for companies in the Midwest. Pick and pack is the processing small to large quantities of product, often truck or train loads and disassembling them, picking the relevant product for each destination and re-packaging with shipping label affixed and invoice included. Most firms outsource the pick and pack process to other firms because it is easier and more cost effective that way. The pick and pack process is very detailed and involving, which is why companies tend to outsource the work.

Pick and Pack Process:

Processing: When a company is involved in a pick and pack system, they have to take the order and process it first. This means keying in the details of the customer, evaluating inventory, and making sure there is enough supply on hand before having the order filled.

Unloading inventory: This involves taking materials off the truck or train, depending on delivery method to the warehouse, and disassembling everything to prepare for proper storage until required for production. This may also involve scanning all materials and parts into some kind of inventory system.

Picking: At the appropriate time, the material is picked from inventory to either be used in producing a finished product, or is to be shipped out to the customer. This also requires packaging the material so it stays safe and unharmed while in transit. A shipping label is attached to it, followed by an invoice.

Loading: In some cases, depending on the size of the department, a packer will also engage in loading the products on a truck for delivery. Otherwise, the trucking company used would do the loading.

Companies in the Midwest depend on the pick and pack service from other companies to get their products to Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, anywhere. Finding a good company to handle your pick and pack needs is crucial for your company.
